BKB 48: Trujillo Stops Lucas Browne to Retain Bare Knuckle Belt

BKB Bare Knuckle held it’s biggest event to date Saturday in Florida.

The “Night of Four Kings” featured four title bouts. Unfortunately, two world title matches ended inconclusively.

In the main event, BKB World Heavyweight Champion Gustavo Trujillo retained the title by first-round KO against Lucas Browne. Trujillo dominated the former boxing champ, knocking him down twice. Browne took the count on his knees whle shaking his head after the second knockdown.

Trujillo improves to 8-0 (8 first round KOs) with the win. BKB’s biggest challenge with Trujillo is finding a suitable opponent. Perhaps a fight can be made with Kamil Sokolowski, the UK based Polish heavyweight who has impressed in BKB cards in the UK.

Cub Hawkins Knocks Out Barrie Jones

Cub Hawkins regained the BKB Light Heavyweight Title in the co-main event. Hawkins, the promotion’s cruiserweight champion, defeated Barrie Jones of Wales by first round stoppage. Jones was making the first defence of the title he won from Gregoris Cisneros, who had defeated Hawkins for the title last year.

The quicker Hawkins came out moving as the southpaw Jones pressured. Cub landed some left uppercuts from the clinch before he dropped Jones with a right. Jones got up and the action resumed. Cub landed a jab that dropped Jones for the count.

Hwkins called out Paulie Malignaggi after the fight. It seems like the end is near for Jones. Now 40, “The Welsh Wrecking Machine” has lost 2 of his last 3 fights by stoppage.

The other two title fights ended by no contest. The lightweight title bout between Jarod Grant and Jon Barnard was cut short when Barnard couldn’t continue after an unintentional eye poke.

The super cruiserweight title fight between Julian Fernandez and Yordan Fuentes was declared a no contest after an unintentional foul. Fernandez landed an illegal punch to the back of the head in the first round and Fuentes couldn’t continue.

Another notable bout was a bridgerweight title elimination bout. Former heavyweight champion Ike Villanueva defeated Jarome Hatch by unanimous decision. It’s Villanueva’s second straight win after moving down from heavyweight.
