Former boxing champion Jamel Herring will make his BKFC debut on 17 January against Matt Guymon at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut, BKFC announced. The bantamweight bout is part of the BKFC 86 fight card, streaming live on DAZN.
Herring, 40, is a former WBA World Super Featherweight Champion. He won the title from Japan’s Masayuki Ito and successfully defended the title against Lamont Roach and Carl Frampton. In his third title defence, Herring was dethroned by Shakur Stevenson by tenth round stoppage in October 2021.
Herring had 3 more fights before he hung up the gloves. The former U.S. Marine retired with a pro boxing record of 24-5 (12 KOs).
Guymon brings a 2-1 bare knuckle record into the fight against Herring. He competed in MMA before he debuted in ungloved boxing in 2024.
The 37-year-old won his first 2 fights before a decision loss to former title challenger Ryan Reber in May. Against Herring, Guymon has the chance to get back in the win column against a high-profile opponent.
Herring vs Guymon is the BKFC 86 co-main event. Julian Lane defends the BKFC Welterweight Title for the first time against Dustin Pague in the main event.
