IBA Bare Knuckle has promised a review of the judges’ scoring in the Yoel Romero-Vagab Vagabov bout held Saturday in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Vagabov defeated former UFC star Romero by decision in the main event of IBA Bare Knnuckle 4. IBA Bare Knuckle is the bare knuckle division of the International Boxing Association. The promotion recently appointed BKB Co-founder Jim Freeman as its Director.
The decision for Vagabov was met with criticism and anger. Many felt Romero deserved the victory. IBA Bare Knuckle, to its credit, has listened to fans’ voices and ordered a review.
“Romero VS Vagabov fight result is going to be reviewed by an independent judging commission — soon we’ll find out final verdict,” the organisation stated in an Instagram post.
The promotion also mentioned Romero, 48, is “totally up to rematch” Vagabov, a 40-year-old Russian MMA veteran with an impressive record of 30-1-1.
The controversial decision loss evened out Romero’s bare knuckle record at 1-1. The popular fighter, the 1999 world freestyle wrestling world champion and 2000 Olympics Silver Medalist, debuted last year in BKFC with an impressive win over Theo Doukas.
