BKB Bridgerweight World Champion Dan Podmore will face multiple division world champion Marko Martinjak at BKB 47 in Leeds. The clash is official as the co-main event to the 18 October blockbuster between former boxing champ Paulie Malignaggi and Tyler Goodjohn.
Podmore is making the second defence of the title he won in November 2024. “Big Pod” defeated Ryan Barrett by devastating knockout in the first round.
In his last outing, Podmore won a unanimous decision over pro boxing standout Emil Markic at BKB 40 in Cardiff. Podmore improved his record to 9-3 (8 Kos) with the win. He’s won three straight bouts since an upset loss to Richie Leak in March 2024.
Croatia’s Martinjak (11-2, 11 Kos) has held bare knuckle belts at light heavyweight and cruiserweight. He’s moving up in weight to face Podmore.
Like “Big Pod”, “The Emperor” enters the fight on a win streak. Martinjak has won five straight since Jarome Hatch upset the Croatian in Dubai in March 2023.
Martinjak has won his last 5 bouts by knockout, with four of the stoppages coming in the first round. A win for either fighter will cement their status as one of the promotion’s top fighters. Given both men’s high knockout percentages, it’s a fight that’s extremely unlikely to go the distance.
