BYB 36 Cardiff Brawl II Results and Highlights

BYB Extreme returned to the Vale Arena in Cardiff Saturday for BYB 36.

It was a night filled with knockouts, with Wales legend Barrie Jones scoring a spectacular KO in the main event.

Welterweight: Dan Gittens (4-0) def. Joe Clarke (0-1)-KO Round 2
Dan Gittens opened the card with an impressive second-round stoppage against Joe Clarke. Gittens broke Clarke down with pressure and a persistent body attack.

A Gittens jab dropped Clarke in round one.He worked the body well late in the stanza, and Clarke’s mouth was wide open at round’s end. Gittens continued his abdominal assault in round two, with Clarke going down and telling the ref he was done.

Flyweight: Ash Williams (1-0) def. Joe Randall (0-1)-KO Round 1
Wales’s Williams, a former Team GB amateur boxer, scored a spectacular knockout of Randall.

The flyweights started furiously. Randall dropped Williams early with a right, and soon dropped Williams again as the war continued.

Williams continued battling and got some good shots in before ending the fight. A Williams right crumpled Randall to the canvas on his face.

Heavyweight: Volodymyr Skurtu (2-1) def. Troy Palmer (2-1)-TKO Round 1
Ukraine’s Skurtu improved to 2-0 in Cardiff, knocking off the previously unbeaten Palmer.

The taller Palmer worked the jab early. Skurtu started to find his timing. Palmer was already breathing heavy.

A Skurtu combination dropped the Wales fighter. Palmer rose unsteadily and the fight was stopped. A jubilant Skurtu made the throat slash gesture to the quiet crowd.

It’s Skurtu’s second win over a Welsh heavyweight. The Ukrainian beat Dorian Darch on cuts at BYB 30 last August.

Light Heavyweight: Keiron Harding (1-0) def. Jonny Lawson (3-17-1)-TKO Round 1
Former amateur boxing standout Harding showed impressive skills in a quick stoppage win over veteran Lawson.

Harding’s superior pedigree and quickness was apparent early. Lawson went down early from a body shot.

The fight continued, with a Harding combination dropping the outgunned Lawson again. The ref had seen enough, giving Harding the win in his BYB debut.

Super Cruiserweight: Steven Evans (2-1-1) def. Steven Rouke (1-1)-KO Round 1
Rouke started aggressively with the southpaw Evans looking to counter. The roughhousing Rouke pushed Evans down.

Evans soon found an opening. He landed a left that seemed to daze Rouke, who continued to press. Another Evans left dropped Rouke on his back, and the ref didn’t need to finish the count.

Middleweight: Gypsy Joe Smith (1-0) def. Ryan McCann (2-2)-TKO Round 1
Smith attacked with a combination that knocked McCann down seconds into round one. McCann got up and the fight continued.

The fighters clinched and were separated. Smith attacked and knocked McCann down again for the stoppage win.

Cruiserweight: Jack Marshman (2-0) def. Alex Wilson (2-2)-TKO Round 4
UFC veteran Marshman won his second bare knuckle bout, defeating Wilson in a technical battle.

A fatigued Wilson went down twice in round four and the fight was stopped.

It was an impressive win for Marshman, who may be the next challenger for BYB cruiserweight champion Cub Swanson. Wilson also boxed well before succumbing late.

Heavyweight: Dorian Darch (2-4) def. Gary Slator (1-1)-KO Round 1
As expected, Slator came out fast against fan favourite Darch.

He landed a couple of good shots but Darch soon dropped him.

Slator shook his hand while taking the count from the ref and the fight was over.

Super Welterweight: Bianca Daimoni def. Ashley Brace-Split Decision
In a ladies bout that went the distance, Brazil’s Bianca Daimoni won a split decision over former pro boxer Ashley Brace, spoiling Brace’s return to combat sports.

In the co-main event, Kallum Skhane (2-0) had too much firepower for Joe Fitzpatrick, stopping him in the second round.

Light Heavyweight: Barrie Jones def. Gregoris Cisneros-KO Round 1
“The Welsh Wrecking Machine” is back.

Wales’s Jones scored a spectacular comeback victory in his Trigon return, winning the BYB Light Heavyweight Title in just seconds.

Jones, a southpaw, threw a quick right jab-left combination, following with a hook-left. The two exchanged, with a Jones right dropping Cisneros to his knees.

Cisneros couldn’t get up and the fight was stopped. It seemed the kill shot caught Cisneros clean on the nose, he was touching his nose and wiping it with a towel after.

Jones, a former BKB and Police Gazette Champion, won the BYB World Light Heayvweight Title with the win.

Jones said after the fight he wants a rematch with super middleweight champion LT “Smash” Nelson, who handed Jones his first loss last August.
