After an epic August with events at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Mohegan Sun and historic Fenway Park, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship returns to its second home of Hollywood, Florida on Friday.
The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is the venue for BKFC 93. The promotion regularly sells the Hard Rock out, with local favourites such as Leonardo Perdomo, Bryan Duran, Justin Ibarrola and Edgard Plazaola regularly battling opponents before a big local crowd.
Leonardo Perdomo Continues March Towards Title Shot
Perdomo (11-0, 11 KOs) headlines Friday’s night’s event against Shelby “Bear” Hill (3-1, 3 KOs).
Most will view it as a tuneup of sorts for Perdomo while the Cuban expat waits for a shot at the BKFC Heavweight Title, currently held by former UFC star Andrei Arlovski.
Perdomo has looked invincible thus far in his bare knuckle career. Ten of 11 opponents haven’t made it to the second round. Fourth ranked contender Corey Willis is the only man to take the heavy handed Perdomo out of the first round, eventually falling in the third. Perdomo is aggressive and hits very hard. It’s going to take a high-level fighter to derail the Cuban.
Hill replaced Anthony Garrett on relatively short notice. Bear has shown skill and toughness in his four bare knuckle fights, but none of the opponents had Perdomo’s pedigree. Perdomo will be a big betting favourite to defeat Hill in the early rounds.
“Mohawk” Takes on “Tomahawk”
In a battle between fan favourites with Native American themed nicknames, BKFC Interim Cruiserweight Champion Esteban “Mohawk” Rodriguez faces former contender Stephen “Tomahawk” Townsel.
Rodriguez’s belt isn’t on the line-Mohawk and Townsel will be fighting in the newly established ironweight division (maximum weight of 225 lbs).
It’s Mohawk’s first bout since he defeated Chris Camozzi for the interim title in April. Rodriguez (6-1, 6 KOs) will be a big favourite against the veteran Townsel (6-5, 6 KOs), who was stopped in his last bout by Mike Jones.
Duran Faces Bennett; Strode, Perez to Rematch
The BKFC 93 co-main event pits popular Bryan “Cash Cow” Duran (8-1-1, 8 KOs) against veteran Charles “Felony” Bennett (1-4). Duran’s only loss was by decision against current featherweight champion Kai Stewart. There’s been talk of the two fighting a second time.
In the featured fight, contenders Andrew Strode (4-0) and Gee Perez (7-2) run it back. Strode defeated Perez by TKO last year in a bout that was originally ruled a no-contest before the result was changed by the Florida Athletic Commission. Perez suffered a badly cut ear which was the result of Strode punches. The fight was inexplicably ruled a no contest before the commission reversed the original result.
