Many men and women would love to punch their boss in their face.
Austin “No Doubt” Trout is no different.
The reigning BKFC Welterweight Champion told BoxingScene he has no problem knuckling up against BKFC part-owner and UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
“Y’all already know me. I’m more than happy to do that fight. But I am going to ruin everyone’s plans, you know what I am saying? It wouldn’t be the smartest fight [for McGregor], but I would love to take it,” Trout told Manouk Akopyan.
Trout defends his BKFC welterweight belt tonight against Rico Franco, the former BKB champion in the BKFC Spain co-main event.
Trout will be a keen observer of the main event. Undefeated Tony Soto of the USA will battle Rico Tenaglia for the vacant BKFC Lightweight Title. Trout told Akopyan he’s interested in moving down to the lightweight limit of 155 pounds to try and become a two-belt champion.
Winning a second belt at lightweight could help position Trout for a future showdown with McGregor. The Irish legend competes in MMA at 155 pounds, and has spoken of competing in BKFC after he completes his UFC contract.
A McGregor-Trout showdown may not even be possible until 2026 at the earliest. McGregor has publicly stated he has two fights left on his UFC contract, and aims to finish the agreement by fighting twice in 2025.
If and when it happens, it will be the biggest fight in modern bare knuckle fighting history. McGregor is an international household name with superstar status, while Trout is a well-regarded champion who proudly speaks of winning titles in two sports.
McGregor has attended the BKFC Spain fight week festivities. He’ll be in attendance tonight, and Trout may just call him out publicly to generate interest in a future showdown.
