BKFC President David Feldman says fans can expect more pro gloved boxers crossing over to the rapidly growing sport of bare knuckle fighting.
Speaking on last week’s The Bare Knuckle Show with Brian Soscia, Feldman said the recent addition of former boxing contender Alfredo “Perro” Angulo led to greater interest from other boxers.
“But what it did is it got a lot of boxers interested in this thing,” Feldman told Soscia and commentator Chris Lytle.
“I have so many boxers right now. Undefeated professional boxers. 8-0, 12-0-, 15-0. All undefeated professional boxers coming over to BKFC early next year.”
“We’re going on a big signing spree. I don’t want the fighters on our roster to get mad. We’re still using ya. We’re doing a lot of events next year,” said Feldman.
“We’re going to figure out who fits here and who doesn’t.”
Austin Trout Becomes Bare Knuckle Ambassador
Angulo isn’t the only high-profile gloved boxer to switch to bare knuckle.
Former world champion Austin Trout is 3-0 in BKFC since making his debut in February 2023. Trout defeated Luis Palomino for the BKFC Welterweight Tite earlier this year, successfully defending the title against Rico Franco last month at BKFC Spain.
Trout’s boxing skills have been on another level. No opponent has been able to deal with the former WBA junior middleweight champion’s slickness. It’s hard to think of a welterweight who would be favoured to defeat the veteran boxer.
Angulo’s BKFC Future Uncertain
While Trout has shook up the bare knuckle scene with his arrival, Angulo’s had mixed results.
“Perro” scored a spectacular KO against Jeremiah Riggs in his debut.
He wasn’t as fortunate last weekend at BKFC’s event in Montana, losing a decision to veteran Julian Lane.
Angulo’s performance raised questions about his future with the promotion. He looked slow and robotic at times, plodding foward and getting picked off by Lane.
Perro blamed the performance on illness. He told Feldman he had been sick but didn’t want to pull out of the fight.
“He told me he wasn’t 100 percent. He told me he wasn’t 50 percent,” said Feldman.
“He had nothing is what he said. But again, him having nothing or an off night, coupled by Julian Lane being on his A game was not a good night for Alfredo Angulo.”
Lytle expressed concern with the amount of punishment Angulo’s taken in his two BKFC fights.
“Listen, I don’t wany fighter taking excessive punishment. We’re gonna have a talk. He’s gonna heal up for a couple of weeks then we’ll have a talk,” said Feldman.
“If we think it’s the right fit, we’ll bring him back. We’ll give him a shot.”
