New Opponent for Jamel Herring at BKFC 89

Former boxing champion Jamel Herring has a new opponent for his title bout at BKFC 89 on 22 May.

Herring (1-0) will face once beaten Michael Larrimore (3-1, 3 KOs) in the main event of the fight card, taking place at the Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, California.

Herring was scheduled to face 2-0 Nate Maness. BKFC announced Larrimore was stepping in for Maness earlier this week.

Larrimore has shown dangerous power in his BKFC career. All three of his wins have come by first-round knockout.

His sole defeat was to former champion Keith Richardson in December 2024. The dangerous Richardson stopped Larrimore in the first round.

Herring successfully debuted in BKFC in January with a unanimous decision over Matt Guymon at BKFC 86. The former WBO Super Featherweight champ used his height, reach and boxing skills to dominate Guymon, winning every round on all three judges’ scorecards.

Larrimore brings dangerous power but he’ll have to find a way to catch Herring. If he tries boxing with the former US Marine, he figures to be soundly outpointed.

A Herring win will make him the second former boxing champion to capture a BKFC title. Austin “No Doubt” Trout won the BKFC Welterweight Title after an accomplished boxing career where he defeated Miguel Cotto and held the WBA junior middleweight title.
