Scott McHugh Victorious; Calls Out Paulie
In the penultimate prelim, former champion Scott “The Mute” McHugh showcased the skills that make him one of Britain’s best bare knuckle fighters. McHugh defeated previously unbeaten Nick by unanimous decision.
Bass had success in round one. He landed clean rights and opened a cut on McHugh over the eyes. Bass punched then held in a round that featured a lot of clinches.
McHugh was able to keep distance more often in round two and was more effective. McHugh got the better of the action in the third, and hurt Bass at the close of round four. Bass’s face showed the effects of the battle with swelling and a cut. It looked like McHugh may finish the bout inside the distance.
In the fifth, Bass clinched often and fought in survival mode. The judges’s scores were 50-45 twice, and a bit too close at 48-47, all for McHugh.
McHugh called out Paulie Malignaggi in his postfight interview with Gareth A Davies.
By UNANIMOUS decision! Scott McHugh! 🚨

Dec Spelman Blasts Out Kevin Greenwood
In the last prelim, unbeaten former English boxing champion Dec Spelman impressed in his BKB debut. Spelman (4-0) needed less than a round to defeat game veteran Kevin Greenwood (4-4-1).
Spelman showed an educated left hand early, with hooks and jabs. Greenwood kept a high guard but some of Spelman’s shots got through his defence.
Spelman let his hands go and Greenwood, cut on the forehead and with swelling over his left eye, eventually went down from a Spelman right. He bravely got up but the referee waved off the fight.
“I can fight and I’m clever. I think in this game, I really think I’ll go all the way,” Spelman told Gareth Davies after the fight.
A HUGE HIT FROM SPELMAN WINS IT! 🚨

BKB 54: Main Card Results
Daniel Lerwell def. Robert Koky-TKO Round 1
Lerwell (12-4, 11 KOs) was too much for Slovakia’s Koky (6-3). Lerwell set the tone early with a quick counter and was a class above athletically and technically.
A Lerwell counter right caused the bout’s first knockdown. A Lerwell hook jarred Koky’s jaw and follow up shots dropped him for the second time. A knockdown late in the round sealed Koky’s fate. He bravely got up but the ref stopped the fight.
Simey Doherty def. Joe Fitzpatrick-KO Round 2
“The Smoke from Stoke” Simey Doherty (9-2, 2 KOs) stopped Northern Ireland’s Fitzpatrick late in the second round of an entertaining battle. Doherty had the edge but Fitzpatrick was willing. Late in round two, Doherty had Fitzpatrick on the ropes and shoeshined the body before twisting a right uppercut that connected with Fitzpatrick’s nose. Fitzpatrick dropped to a knee and took the count.
Doherty thanked his coach Craig and praised Fitzpatrick for taking the fight on a couple of weeks notice after Aaron McCallum withdrew.
Doherty said he wants to fight for the title next, and said he’s willing to travel.
“It’s all about respect. I respect everybody and I fear nobody. And I want that title shot,” he told Gareth Davies.
THAT'S ALL SHE WROTE! 🚨

Danny Mitchell def. Jack Marshman-KO Round 1
Fight of the Night maybe!
MMA veterans Mitchell and Marshman went to war. The two tore into each other early on, and the fistacuffs resembled a hockey match as the two traded punches in the clinch.
Marshman pressed and opened up as Mitchell covered up in the corner. Mitchell covered and countered with a left hook, with follow up punches that cut and dropped Marshman for the victory.
The sensational slugfest lasted a whole 39 seconds. Defo fight of the night candidate.
THAT IS VICIOUS FROM DANNY MITCHELL! 👊

Estevan Partida def. Kallum Skhane-TKO Round 6 (Partida Wins BKB Super Lightweight Title)
In what some will consider a controversial stoppage, Partida stopped a fading Skhane with just 41 seconds left in the fight.
Wale’s Skhane built an early lead as Partida showboated and clowned more than he did actual fighting. BKB commentators Bernardo Osuna and Jimmy Smith compared Partida’s style to that of fomer boxing standout Emmanuel Augustus, “drunken master” fighting.
He got more serious in the fourth and fifth before closing the show in round six. Skhane looked exhausted by the fifth round and with Partida working the body on a badly faded Skhane, the ref called the fight at the 2:19 mark of round six.
Some will argue Skhane hadn’t been knocked down and should have been given the benefit of the doubt. He was possibly 41 seconds away from being a bare knuckle champion, depending on how the judges scored the bout.
Estevan Partida finishes Kallum Skhane in the final round! 😤

David Winiarski def. James Connelly-TKO Round 2
Scotland’s Winiarski showed he’s a force with a second-round stoppage against former title challenger and BKB veteran Connelly.
Winiarski knocked Connelly down with a heavy right hand in the first round. Connelly got up on shaky legs as Winiarski continued his attack. To make things worse, Connelly pawed at his right eye late in the round.
Winiarski scored another knockdown in round two and further damaged Connelly’s face with a shot that busted his nose. Winiarski poured on the punishment until Connelly’s corner and the referee had seen enough.
David Winiarski WHAT A PERFORMANCE! 🤩

Javon Wright def. Dan Gittens-TKO Round 2 (Wright Retains BKB Welterweight Title)
In a grudge match after online trash talk, champion Wright had the final word, dominating Gittens and forcing a referee intervention in the second round.
The taller Wright knocked down the valiant Gittens three times in the first round. Gittens survived and kept battling in round two before a right by Wright knocked the Brit down for the fourth time.
Gittens got up but was in no state to continue and the referee halted the fight at the 1:40 mark of the round.
GRUDGE SETTLED. 😤
JAVON WRIGHT ABSOLUTELY DOMINATED DAN GITTENS! 🚨

Rolando Dy def. Paulie Malignaggi-KO Round 2 (Dy Retains BKB Super Welterweight Title)
Dy said at Wednesday’s media workout he’d knock Paulie out or make him quit.
The Filipino warrior did the former, not the latter.
Dy imposed himself on Malignaggi from the get go, getting inside and grinding Paulie down in the clinch. Paulie had words for Dy when the round ended. The 45-year-old former boxing champion looked like he felt the pace of the infighting.
Dy scored an early knockdown in round two with a big right hand. Paulie got up but Dy stepped in with another right that dropped him for the count.

It’s the first successful title defence for Dy, son of former boxing world champion Rolando Navarette. He praised Paulie after the fight. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Dy, who mentioned his contract is expiring.
For Paulie, this is almost certainly the end of a phenomenal fight career. The “Magic Man” won two world boxing titles and challenged for a bare knuckle title. He’s also one of the best commentators in the business and can walk away proud after years of entertaining fans with his boxing skills.
