During Sunday’s BKFC Italy press conference, New Zealand heavyweight Haze Hepi was introduced to the attending journalists.
Hepi, also known as “Hazes the Huntsman” is a Maori tribesman with a 2-0 (1 KO) record in bare knuckle.
Hepi debuted in bare knuckle last year with a first-round stoppage over Dean Brook at a Bad to the Bone event. Last July, the Kiwi fighter defeated the more-experienced Jody Meikle by five-round decision.
The Meikle win opened eyes and Hegi has since signed with BKFC. He’ll make his debut on 26 April in Florence .
“This is something I’ve sort of dreamt of. Being there on the stage. Everyone can get it. I am coming for that world title,” said Hepi.
Hepi competed in pro boxing in his native New Zealand before moving to bare knuckle. He’s 7-2-1 (7 KOs) in gloved boxing, according to BoxRec.
If Hepi wins at BKFC Italy, as a regional talent he could be chosen to fight at BKFC’s debut event in Australia. A BKFC executive stated Sunday that the promotion is planning to hold its first events in Hungary, Australia, and Brazil in 2025, in addition to already scheduled events in Italy and Dubai.
