Unbeaten welterweight Bryce Henry got the biggest win of his career but it wasn’t without controversy.
Henry defeated former champion Julian Lane by fourth-round disqualification in the BKFC Fight Night main event Thursday in Hollywood, Florida. The event streamed globally on the BKFC + App and DAZN.
The taller Henry used his height and reach advantages in the first two rounds, and cut Lane over the left eye. The fight was delayed after a Lane rabbit punch in round one. Referee Samuel Burgos gave Henry a couple of minutes to recover.
Lane’s best round was the third. He landed some shots from the southpaw stance and did some good work in the clinch. It seemed as if the veteran was starting to find his groove.
Then, things took a turn for the worse.
Henry landed a good right in the fourth and Lane double legged him to the canvas. Henry rolled on his side and held his lower back then Burgos disqualified Lane for the flagrant foul.

The referee’s decision to quickly disqualify Lane can be questioned. Why wasn’t Henry given five minutes to recover before Burgos disqualifed Lane? Couldn’t he have taken a point and given Henry time to regroup?
On the other hand, it was a flagrant foul and Lane had already been warned for the first round rabbit punch. Lane was just hit with a clean right hand and some might say he was looking for a way out or to gain an edge by cheating, justifying Burgos’s decision.
It’s a tough call for a referee to make. It’s a shame the fight didn’t go on to a natural conclusion. The win moves the 7-0 Henry from prospect to contender. It’s the first high level opponent Henry has beaten.
For Lane, it’s a tough loss. He’s lost two fights in a row and may have a long road back to a title shot.
GoGo Defeats Jonny Tello in “Fight of the Night”
Former welterweight champion Gorjan “GoGo” Slaveski and Jonny Tello battled it out in the co-main event. Slaveski prevailed in an exciting, back-and-forth battle chosen as fight of the night. Slaveski knocked Tello down in the first and fifth rounds, but Tello showed skill and toughness and kept battling until the final bell. Official scores were 48-45 and 47-46 twice for Slaveski, who improved to 8-1 with the win. Tello slips to 3-3, with all his losses coming by decision.

Mike Jones Knocks Out Tomahawk Townsel
The BKFC Fight Night Hollywood featured bout was a cruiserweight matchup between veteran Steve “Tomahawk” Townsel and prospect Mike Jones, two fighters on the rise.
Townsel (6-5) entered the fight on a three-fight win streak, including victories over tough South African Jeremy Smith and California cop Keith “The Officer” Richardson.
Jones (4-1) had also won three in a row since he lost his debut to Erick Lozano in 2023.
Townsel, a southpaw, attacked from the opening bell and got caught with a good left. He continued his attack and Jones blocked and countered with a combination that dropped Townsel. Tomahawk tried to beat the count but couldn’t make it to his feet.

Big win for Jones, who could earn a top five spot in the BKFC rankings with the impressive knockout.
A disappointing setback for Townsel. The veteran had expressed interest in facing interim champion Esteban “Mohawk” Rodriguez before the Jones defeat.
