Championship Doubleheader Announced for BYB 33
Two world title fights are official for the 9 November event.
Five-time world champion Marko Martinjak of Croatia meets UFC veteran Brad Scott for the BYB Super Cruiserweight Title.
Martinjak has won three straight since a shocker stoppage loss to Jarome Hatch in Dubai in March 2023. He avenged the defeat three months later, stopping Hatch in two rounds at BYB 18 in London.
“The Croatian Prince” left no doubt who the better man was between he and Hatch. Martinjak vanquished the tough Texan in less than a round in the rubber match in January. He followed up with a stoppage over Kevin Greenwood in May, and looks for his fourth consecutive knockout against Scott.
Scott competed for the UFC between 2012 and 2018, going 3-5 overall. The 35-year-old debuted in BKB in 2022 and has won three of four bouts by stoppage. The only blemish on Scott’s ledger is a five-round majority draw against common opponent Greenwood.
A win over Martinjak will boost Scott’s credibility as a bare knuckle fighter and bring him championship gold. The Croatian is by far Scott’s best opponent since taking off the MMA gloves.
“Big Pod” and Barrett to Run it Back
Former BKB heavyweight champion Dan “Big Pod” Podmore meets mate Ryan Barrett in the co-feature.
It’s a rematch of an action-packed brawl between Podmore and Barrett that took place at BKB 28 in September 2022.
Podmore got the win but it wasn’t easy. “Big Pod” was staggered and stunned by Barrett in round one, before rallying in round two. The fight was stopped between rounds when Barrett couldn’t continue.
Over two years later, the friends and sometimes rivals will collide in the Mighty Trigon, BYB’s unique triangle-shaped ring. BYB rules allow dirty boxing in the clinch and the rounds are three minutes long. Both Podmore and Barrett will need to prepare for a fight with longer rounds and legal clinching in a smaller triangle ring..
It will be interesting to see if Podmore can again prevail with a more challenging rule set.
More bouts for BYB 33 will be announced soon.
